Diva Weekly Challenge # 161

It said this was a practice challenge so I 'practiced' Quandary with my white Gellyroll Glaze pen.  I also added some 'greenery' with the Gellyroll pen.   I then wet the paper and added some Acrylic ink in purple, let it dry then added some green.  I then filled in some details with my micron pen.  It was a practice tile for me as I still need more practice using the glaze pen.

Day 17 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 17 = Curvy and Linear Organic Patterns Combined.  I started out in the center with some spirals from this week's Diva Challenge, drew a circle around then, sectioned it off and drew in Courant.  I then added some large circles and filled them in with Vitruvius.  I then put some Sedgling around the outside and added a few Tipple.

Day 16B of One Zentangle a Day

This assignment was to do a ATC with a mid tone paper and use any tangles we wanted.

Day 16 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 16 = Organic Patterns.  The tangles for this tile are Pepper, Ynix, Squid and Tipple.  The green colour which you probably don't notice is with a Staedtler Triplus Fine Liner pen. and the white on the Pepper is with a Gellyroll white pen.

Day 15 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 15 = Organic Linear Patterns.  The tangles are yincut, Locar, Verdigogh and Printemps.

Day 14-B of One Zentangle a Day

This Challenge was to use a black tile - the lightest should be in the front focal point.

Day 14 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 14 = Decorative Value.  The tangles are Chaining, Dyon and Keeko.  I morphed Keeko into Nekton and Tipple.

It's a String Thing # 33

The string is No. 34 by Jadie Wright.  The tangles are:  Japan Diamond, W2, Tagh and Diva Dance - Waltz.  The colour is with a Derwent watercolour pencil crayon and a red Pigma micron pen.

Day 13 from One Zentangle a Day

Day 13 was Deconstructing and Reconstructing a Pattern.  The tangles I used are:  Florz, Onamato and Pokeroot.

Day 12-B from One Zentangle a Day

This assignment was to do an ATC on cream coloured paper using the two Beeline and Bale Tangelations.  I also used a Chillion tangelation as well as Fiscu.  The colour is with a Tombow marker.

Day 12 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 12 is Balancing Harmony and Variety = Similar shape, tonal value, size or a combination.  I used Beelight, Chillion and Bales, Knights Bridge and Purk.  The colour is with a Pigma micron pen.

Diva Weekly Challenge # 160 - 2

This is the second challenge tile I did.  There are so many tangles with spirals it was hard to choose which ones to use.  I chose, Printempt for the center then drew strings spiralling out.  I added Mooka, C-Bun, Opus, Birds on a Wire, and Ambler.

Diva Weekly Challenge # 160

Diva Weekly Challenge # 160: "String Theory:  Spiral out, Keep Going! (v.2)".  I put a spiral in the center which is Printemps and then spiraled out 5 times to the left and 5 times to the right and ended up with petal shapes in the middle and the larger petal shapes that I filled with Printemps.  I used Knights Bridge in the negative space for the background.

Day 11 ATC

This challenge for Day 11 was to using brush pens and auras and rounding on an artists trading card.  I started with a brush pen and ended up adding some 01 pen for the background of Hollibaugh.

Day 11 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 11 = Auras and Rounding.  Rosettes by Diane K. Ryan, CZT and Blox by Alice Hendon CZT are two new to me tangles that I selected from my other new book, The Beauty of Zentangle.  I used auras and rounding.

Day 10 - B of One Zantangle a Day

This is the second one.  On Echoism  and Flukes I used an 005 pen to get the background to recede. I managed to get Finery right this time.  It is not a tangle I use very often so was out of practice for the previous post Zentangle.  Lesson 10 is lessons from a landscape about foreground, midground and background.

Day 10 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 10 is Lessons from a Landscape.  I had trouble with the lines on Finery and there are no mistakes in Zentangle so this is what I got.  I see a little bit of the receding.  I did another one which is on the next post.  I got Finery right and I used an 005 pen on the next one to get more receding than this one.

Day 9 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 9 is about white tiles vs black tiles.  It is learning about high key tonal values vs low key tonal values.  I would have to do more black tiles and do them regularly to get good at this.  I need to make a practice sheet on black paper and draw out some of the tangles so when I go back to do another black tile I have a more accurate reference.I used my clear glaze gellyroll pen on  this but it doesn't show well.

Day 8 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 8  = from flat to 3-d in twenty minutes.  I can see where I should have chosen my values better.  I could do this again and put the dark ones in the background.  I used oval templates for the 'egg' shapes.  The darker and smaller ones recede and the lighter, larger ones come into the foreground.

Day 7 of One Zentangle a Day

This is an ATC which is 2.5 x 3.5 inches.  I used tangleations of Nipa, Mooka, Hollibaugh, Crescent Moon and Printemps.

Day 6 from One Zentangle a Day

Day 6 = One stroke patterns - Mooka, Amaze and Flux.  Amaze is like 'stippling' in quilting and cornelli lace in cake decorating.  For Flux I drew a curvy line first.  The red is with a Pigma micron pen.

Day 5 ATC One Zentangle a Day

This is the first artists trading card that I have ever done.  It was part of day 5 things to do.

Day 5 One Tangle a Day

For the string I drew some of the wires behind my tv.  This is Day 5 = Adding a sparkle.  The new tangles for today are Isochor and Printemps.

Day 4 from One Zentangle a Day

Day 4 is Orb or Hole, only the shading will tell.  These are orbs.  I tried to do the holes but they didn't look like holes with some orbs so made them all orbs.  I usually have all my orbs with the highlight on the upper right hand corner but this somehow got turned around.

Day 3 from One Zentangle a Day

Day 3 is overlapping designs to create depth.  I even remembered about the black and white.  The tangles are:  Pokeroot, Festune, Hollibaugh and Fescu.

Day 2 of One Zentangle a Day

Day 2 - Pattern as Tonal Value.  That is the first time I tried Nexton.  I found it trying so filled in the gaps with Tipple.  The flower was an experiment with watercolour pencil crayons I was showing a friend so used that tile.

Day 1 from One Zentangle a Day

Day 1 was to draw Static, Tipple and Crescent Moon.  I looked out my kitchen window to draw the string.  I look into the forest so one line is the outline of a tree, the other is another tree and the third line is a branch.  Good idea to look at our world to draw strings.  The colour is with a Staedtler pen.

It's a String Thing # 32

The challenge for "It's a String Thing" # 32 was to draw out String # 24 by Jodie Wright and to use tangles with W and R.  I chose the Tangles Worms by Carolyn, Warts and Wobbles by Cindy Straight and Warangaie by Sandra Straight.  The colour is with a yellow Stabilo point 88 pen.

Diva Weekly Challenge # 159

Diva Weekly Challenge # 159:  Top o' the Morning".  I used Tripoli, Sh'Rock, Rixty, Betweed and Lukiline.  The colour is with Prismacolour pencil crayons.

New Tangle Stef-ah-ni

I tried two new tangles from my new Made in the Shade book by Chris Letourneau.  They are Stef-ah-ni and Crewelery.  I didn't quite do the Stef-ah-ni right but next time I will follow the directions properly, hopefully.

I tried the new tangle, Snag by Jem Miller.  The colour is with Derwent watercolour pencil crayons.

Tangle Patterns String 093

I used Lucky, Pia, Lukiline and Gauze.  The colour is with Derwent watercolour pencil crayons.

Tangle Patterns String 095

I used Tangle Patterns String 095 for this Zentangle.  I used watercolours to try and give a layered look.

Tangle Patterns String 094

Glaze Pen on Tan Paper

Another attempt at using my glaze pen.  This time I used tan paper with acrylic inks.

Another Glaze Pen Tile

I tried another tile with the glaze pen.  This looks good in reality but the effect with the pen doesn't show on the scan.  It needs to move to show off the glaze.  Maybe I need to get a white glaze pen to get the effect I want?  Anyways...with using watercolours I have to be happy with the results because I don't seem to be able to control them yet.

Glaze Pen with Shamrock String #3

I drew the shamrock with a micron pen then outlined it and filled in the outline with my new glaze pen.  I then wet the paper and added some acrylic ink to the background.  Some bled into the shamrock.  I added Mooka and Orbs.  I added white dots to the background with my white Jellyroll pen.  The shamrock string shimmers in the light but doesn't show up with this scan.  I don't know if the Glaze pen is white or clear.  I suspect it is clear.

Glaze Pen with Shamrock String #2

I first drew the shamrock string with a micron pen then outlined the string.  I then filled the outline in with the glaze pen.  I wet all the paper then put an acrylic wash into the background and some of the colour bled into the shamrock. The glaze absorbed some of the colour - I thought it would have acted more like a resist.  I then added tangles and no shading.  The glaze pen shows up on the paper when the paper moves but not on this scan.

Glaze Pen with Shamrock String#1

This is #1 of 3 shamrock strings I did with my new glaze pen.  I outlined the string, drew the Sh'rocks and dots with the glaze pen.  I then splashed on some acrylic ink.  I outlined the glaze on the shamrock string and the dots in the background with a black micron pen, added some tangles then shaded.  I noticed that the graphite doesn't stick to the glaze pen outlines so was able to get the Sh'rocks to show more in the background with the blender.   This has a beautiful shimmer in the daylight but doesn't show up as well with the scan.

Glaze Pen

This is my first attempt at using my new Jellyroll Glaze pen.  It doesn't show up very well.  I need to use more intense watercolours with it.  I ended up going over the lines in black so they would show.  I need to have a plan of what effect I want to create before I put the pen to paper.

It's a String Thing # 31

The tangles to use for It's a String Thing # 31 are:  Lucky by Adele Bruno and Paradox by Rick Roberts.  The colour is with Derwent watercolour pencil crayons.  The string is a shamrock.

Pokeleaf

This was inspired from a design by Marizaan van Beek, CZT from South Africa on the cover of Zentangle 9 - Suzanne McNeill's new book.  I drew a 'M' shape for the string, added Pokeleafs along the string then some green leaf shapes, some Bubbles, Perfs and some lines with black dots.  I guess with St. Patrick's Day coming soon and the green it almost looks Irish.

Acrylic Ink Background

I tried Squill then added Diva Dance, W2 and Pokeroot.  I wasn't too happy with the 3 blue blotches and hoped they would be disguised - oh well, that's what happens with water and paint sometimes.

Watercolour Card

This is the second watercolour card that I did.  I drew in some spring flowers, coloured them with watercolour pencil crayons then added water.  I was going to do different tangles in the background but opted for the Printemps then coloured the spaces in with black.  This is a 5 x 7 inch card.
